| The Great Depression... |
1. The stock market crash of 1929 did not affect everybody because most people didn't have th extra money to invest. 2. During the Great Depression women were often left at home while the men were out looking for work(which was extremely difficult). 3. People often sat there for several days waiting and looking for work but turned up with nothing. 4. Many families had to seek aid from charities. 5. Women had a hard time finding jobs and if they did, they had low wages.
• Where were all the jobs going? • How did this change in the economy affect the amount of children produced? • Did the amount of deaths and the number of suicides increase? • Why didn't the government use some sort of bail out?
Amidst (preposition) - in or into the middle of (pg#57) Docile (adjective) - easily led or managed (pg#59) Charlatan (noun) - one making usually showy pretenses to knowledge or ability (pg#62)
People walked around like zombies because they were used to riding around in Cadillacs but now were lucky of they could afford taxi fare. |
