| The Great Depression...=[ |
1. During the depression homeless women were not seen as much although they lived on the streets. 2. Many often hid themselves from society. 3. Sometimes they found refuge with men but nothing happened to them. 4. In 1932, an estimated fifteen to twenty-five thousand veterans of the First World War went to Washington D.C., to demand bonuses that had been promised to them by Congress? 5. President Hoover and other conservatives believed that it wasn't the governments job to issue handouts.
• Why were women forced to live on the streets? • Where was the government going to find all this money to give to the veterans? • If they knew that there would be no more money to dole, then why would they promise the veterans a bonus? • Why did President Hoover think it wasn't the governments job to give handouts to its citizens?
